AN OVERVIEW OF YOU’RE DESIGNED TO SHINE

Many of you have been encouraged by Christina Dimari and her book, "Ocean Star" as well as her beach workshops.  Now Christina has released a new book called "You're Designed to Shine."

This new exciting material is an inspirational interactive study to encourage girls/women to become the shining stars God designed them to be. The Leaders Guide will coach you to easily lead your own group of girls through the workbook whether you live by the sea, the mountains or somewhere in between! During each session there will be time to share, be creative and participate in individual and group activities. It is VERY seeker friendly to be used as an outreach tool. Most leaders are gathering 10-15 girls in their group but you can do less or more.

This can be done on your own as personal bible study but our ultimate desire is that you purchase the Leaders Guide and gather a group of girls to lead them deeper on their journey of knowing Jesus and walking more closely with him. All materials that you need can be purchased here.

A NOTE FROM CHRISTINA
This whole study started as a dream to shine a light for girls and women encouraging them to become the shining stars God designed them to be.

After graduating from College with a degree in Theology and Communications, I had a heart to help others find wholeness and reach their full potential in life. After twenty-five years of outreach, and thousands of girls asking me questions about how I made it through some difficult parts of my life, I wrote my memoir, Ocean Star, which was published by Tyndale in 2006.

Thousands of letters came in from around the world sharing how they were encouraged by reading Ocean Star. It made me want to do more to help them take a good look at their OWN lives: where they came from, who they have become and who they are still yet to be, so I created an inspirational interactive study called You’re Designed to Shine!  published by GROUP publishing (June 2008)

For the past couple of years I have been have been living my dream by teaching these lessons to groups all over the country. Several girls and women mentioned to me how they wished they could teach groups of girls like I was doing and encourage girls in their own communities. That’s when it hit me. It was time to create a way to pass on the material and equip others to SHINE in their own communities, churches, and neighborhoods.

THE SIX CHAPTERS COVERED IN THE WORKBOOK WILL ENCOURAGE YOU TO:

• Explore your goals and dreams in life and make wise choices
• Discover the unique way your Star shines
• Travel with a supportive Pod of friends
• Recognize Pearls for your Journey from unexpected mentors along the way
• Learn to exchange Gifts with God
• Ride the wave of God’s dream for your life
  
  MY DREAM: If you don't have a dream then you may never leave where you are or become all you can be. The future potential for these girls often starts when they begin to LOOK UP and think about the possibilities in their future.

MY STAR: What we put into our lives eventually comes out. Girls take a good look at their star and how it shines. Also, as with the symbol of the starfish, whatever piece is broken off, if it gets back into the water, it can be healed. When we connect to God as our Source of Life, we too are healed and restored.

MY POD: Show me who your friends are and I'll show you your future. We talk about how to choose healthy people to travel with and how to keep the sharks outside your circle.

MY PEARLS: We all need mentors, girls and women who we can learn valuable lessons from along the way. They may not travel with us like our pod, but we can carry the lessons we learned from them as we continue our journey. Girls think about the pearls they have experienced and start to pay attention to new ways to discover them from women in their community, their churches, their teachers, their families, authors of books they have read, etc...

MY GIFT: Exchanging Gifts with God encouraged the girls to talk with God about everything and learning the process of surrender and acceptance and paying attention to the ways God loves to surprise them with his presence.

MY WAVE: Each girl has a unique wave to ride. The girls are encouraged to not compare themselves with others but to take a look at their own lives, passions and gifts. It is often the commutation of the lessons that they have learned in the whole You're Designed to Shine study that will help them begin to explore what their wave might be. Each of us will ride a wave that uses our gifts and passions, honors God and makes him known to other girls.

We even have darling charms that each girl can receive at the end of each chapter to help her remember the lessons that she has learned!
        

THERE ARE SIX CHAPTERS THAT CAN BE DONE IN A VARIETY OF FORMATS.
 Once a week for six weeks or A weekend Retreat

This study can be done on your own but we encourage you to gather a group of girls and do it together!

If you do it on your own:
you will need one copy of the leaders guide and one copy of the workbook.

If you do it as a group:
you will need one copy of the leaders guide and enough copies for each girl to have their own workbook. (the leader will also need a copy of the workbook in addition to the leaders guide.)

WE LIKE TO BE OUTSIDE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE
At the beach, By a lake, stream, river, pond, In a backyard, At a park.
f you do need or choose to meet inside, have a few girls form a Design Team to create an outdoor beachy setting.

FOR GIRLS AND WOMEN AGES 8-88!
I started out by gathering groups of college age girls and passing on some of the life lessons I have learned along my spiritual journey. But during our time together I encourage the girls to become Pearls/ or mentors to other girls. So the next event the college age girls brought high school age girls with them, then the high school age brought middle school age, then the moms wanted to come and then the grandma’s wanted to come so before I knew it God was showing me that his dream for this material was for Girls ages 8-88! It’s a total thrill to see girls of all ages growing in Christ and learning from each other in the process.

At certain times we will gear the event just for a particular age group or function. For example:

• Open to all! Ages 8-88
• Elementary or Middle School girls
• High School age or College girls
• Women’s Ministry
• Mother/Daughter
• Outreach in your community
  
  You’re Designed to Shine is created in such a way to meet each individual where they are on their own journey, regardless of age or background.  During each session there will be time to share, be creative and participate in individual and group activities. The material is written in such a way that even a young girl can lead a group. You don’t need to be a “leader type” just someone with a heart to shine for others. Really, this was written so than anyone can do this!

BE PART OF OUR DREAM
My dream for You’re Designed to Shine is that girls and women of all ages all over the world will take a look at the Leaders Guide and Workbook to see how they can be a part of shining for girls around the world until:

• every girl who had every wished for a mentor would have one
• every girl who ever felt alone on their journey would find a friend
• and every girl who is looking up and thinking about the plans God is dreaming for her would discover that her star is circled by the same God who knows the stars and calls them each by name!
